Sydney Sweeney in Christy

Christy is a biographical drama directed by David Michôd about Christy Martin, the fighter from West Virginia who became the best-known woman in American boxing in the 1990s. She fought on the undercards of Mike Tyson bouts under the promoter Don King.

Sweeney trained for months and put on weight and muscle for the part. The film follows Martin's rise in the ring and, in parallel, her marriage to her trainer Jim Martin, played by Ben Foster. That marriage ended in 2010, when he attacked her and left her for dead. She survived, and he was convicted of attempted murder.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. It was shown at the BFI London Film Festival in October and reached cinemas in November 2025. Sweeney is also one of its producers. Many photographs on this site were taken at those two festivals.
