Sydney Sweeney in Eden

Eden is a survival drama directed by Ron Howard. It is based on the true story of a small group of Europeans who left their countries around 1930 to settle on Floreana, an almost uninhabited island in the Galápagos.

Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby play Friedrich Ritter and Dore Strauch, who arrived first. Daniel Brühl and Sweeney play Heinz and Margret Wittmer, a German couple who follow them, and Ana de Armas plays a self-styled baroness who plans a hotel on the island. Margret arrives pregnant. The scene in which she gives birth alone is the hardest of the film, and the one most reviews mention.

The film was shot in Queensland, Australia. It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and reached American cinemas in August 2025. The photographs on this site from Toronto in 2024 were taken at that premiere.
