Against the dark step-and-repeat of the Toronto International Film Festival, with the letters of the festival's name glowing white over her shoulder, she turns slightly away from the lens, eyes drifting toward something just out of frame. The look is composed rather than posed: lips painted a deep red, a faint knowing set to the mouth, honeyed hair parted loose and falling in soft strands around a bare neck. Her cream jacket does the quiet talking, its sharp pointed collar balanced by a cascade of ruffled ivory fabric at one shoulder and a burnished gold leaf appliqué stitched below it. The press lighting is even and flattering, catching the sheen of the satin and the warmth in her skin, a moment of stillness in the middle of a very loud evening.
This photograph was taken at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, at the world premiere of Eden. Ron Howard directed the film, and Sweeney plays Margret Wittmer, one of the settlers on the island of Floreana. She walked the carpet with the director and with her fellow cast members, among them Ana de Armas.
