Cream silk takes center stage here: a structured capelet with a crisp pointed collar falls over a full, softly belted skirt, both scattered with three-dimensional fabric blooms in ivory and blush, their stitched leaves curling like something pressed in a book. She stands slightly turned, hands clasped low at her waist, a small ring catching the light, and glances off toward someone beyond the lens with a wide, unguarded smile and a bright red lip. Her blonde hair is parted and swept loose past her shoulders. Behind her, the step-and-repeat repeats its dark grid of festival and sponsor logos, the strobes flattening the backdrop so the pale gown glows. It is the Toronto International Film Festival, and the red carpet is doing exactly what it should.
This photograph was taken at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, at the world premiere of Eden. Ron Howard directed the film, and Sweeney plays Margret Wittmer, one of the settlers on the island of Floreana. She walked the carpet with the director and with her fellow cast members, among them Ana de Armas.
