Sydney Sweeney in The Handmaid's Tale

In the second season of The Handmaid's Tale, the series based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, Sweeney plays Eden Spencer. Eden is a fifteen-year-old girl who believes in the laws of Gilead and who is given in marriage to Nick, the driver played by Max Minghella.

Eden is not a rebel. She wants to be a good wife in a system that the audience knows is monstrous, and the part works because Sweeney plays that belief with no irony. The end of her story is one of the bleakest moments of the season, and it changes how several main characters see the world they serve.
