Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You

Anyone But You is a romantic comedy directed by Will Gluck and loosely based on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Sweeney plays Bea, a law student, and Glen Powell plays Ben. After a first date that ends badly they meet again at a wedding in Sydney, Australia, and agree to pretend to be a couple.

The film opened in December 2023 to modest numbers and then kept growing for weeks. Word of mouth helped, and so did audiences who filmed themselves singing "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, the song that runs through the film. It finished with more than 200 million dollars worldwide on a budget of about 25 million, a result that the studio romantic comedy had not seen in years.

Sweeney was also an executive producer. The film is the clearest proof so far that she can open a film in cinemas on her own name.
