Sydney Sweeney in Euphoria

Euphoria is the HBO drama created by Sam Levinson, adapted from an Israeli series of the same name. It follows a group of high-school students in a California suburb through addiction, love, and the pressure of growing up online. Zendaya leads the cast as Rue Bennett. Sweeney plays Cassie Howard, the older sister of Lexi, played by Maude Apatow.

Cassie starts the series as a girl who is judged by her classmates and who wants, above all, to be loved. In the second season, which aired in early 2022, the part becomes one of the engines of the show. Her secret relationship with Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), the former boyfriend of her best friend Maddy (Alexa Demie), drives much of the plot. The scene in which she insists to a bathroom full of classmates that she has never been happier became one of the most repeated moments of the season.

The role earned Sweeney a 2022 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It is still the part most viewers name first, and the one that turned a working television actress into a lead. A third season was filmed in 2025.
